BODY AND APPEARANCE 1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy? Rat is around 4'5". She was built to be remarkably small! Based solely off her appearance she'd appear as a slender girl who seems light on her feet. Thanks to the material she's made out of, however, she weighs a lot more than someone'd expect her to--well over 120 lbs. 2. How old is she? Physically, she will always appear 15. Her actual age is around two years old. 3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch? Rat has excellent posture. 4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Rat doesn't sicken or tire since she's a golem. Near magic, however, she gets bouts of dizziness and nausea. The severity of the feeling depends on the proximity and power of the magic's source. 5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? There's a jerkiness to her movements, something that springs up unexpectedly in-between an action that makes it clear that there's something up. She's managed for the most part to keep it under control, but under duress it's broadcast loud and clear. 6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror? Rat's creators took great pride in making their golems works of serviceable art. Great care, then, was put into her appearance. She's fairly attractive, and she's aware that she's thought of as such. She herself has no opinion on it, though could be influenced to hold one later on. 7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? Light and clear! It shines, almost. 8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style. Blonde and long. It's rather soft to the touch. Silky is a good descriptor. Most of the time she has it tied up in braids. If not braids, then a bun. 9. What color are her eyes? Grey! 10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Smack dab in the middle of her chest is her "heart." If you were to take it out of her, it'd look like a white, smooth geode. It's the energy source that keeps her together and keeps her moving! It's buried beneath her skin, its position marked by her creators' signature: ▲ 11. What are her chief tension centers? Rat can't feel! 12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit? Initially, Rat wore the uniform typical to a servant serving under the royal family: a buttoned frock coat with a matching skirt. Once she gained awareness (and consequently left the castle), she switched to a dark blue dress to better fit in with the populace, coupled with a black hood. She never changes. 13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them? She has a tendency to wear her clothes rather tight, since she can't feel. It winds up making her look really uncomfortable sometimes. 14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences? She's never off from her job, from how she sees it. 15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Commando! There's nothing to hide in the first place. SPEECH 1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Her voice is a little high, making her sound young. 2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate? Her default was to speak softly, with a lilting tone to it that allowed whoever she was speaking to feel at ease. This was intended by her creators. Since she's become self-aware, however, she's prone to speaking much more rapidly and loudly whenever she's feeling something, be it happiness or anger. She's the sort to give long pauses after her sentences if something catches her off-guard or puzzles her. 3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Rat's language is very pompous and official! Most of her vocabulary is constructed from the novels of Parrot's library. Over the course of her travels, her language will only worsen as she tries to take in new slang from around her and mix it in with what she currently has. 4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency? Rat speaks only the aristocratic language of the city! She's learning, however, to "get down" with the commoners. 5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Not really! 6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words? Rat rarely has to think about what to say, though that's not always a good thing. 7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? Her manner of speech is unnecessarily baroque, even though her intentions can be very blunt! Blame it on the books. When she's emotional, she tends to babble. MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL 1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart? Rat has a great grasp on court etiquette and such. Aside from that, nobody's bothered to educate her. She's remarkably quick to catch on, however, and is best suited for the streets. 2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate? For a golem who's gained consciousness, Rat needs time to order her thoughts to make decisions. Thinking wasn't in her original design. 3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Definitely more logical! As time goes on, her thought process will creep towards the opposite end of the spectrum, much to her frustration. 4. What kind of education has the character had? Who would educate a golem?? 5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about? Rat has some medicinal knowledge--just enough for her to take care of any common illnesses that come their way. That aside, physical combat is at the top. Her interests, though, encompass a broad scope. She wants to do her best to learn how to live as a passable human for the sake of disguise. 6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert? Introvert! 7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Rat initially begins as a blank slate! As the soul affixed to her grows, though, she gains a rather touchy temperament coupled with wild mood swings. 8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? She treats them with a mixture of officiality and curiosity! Rat doesn't necessarily welcome new situations or people, but she's willing to learn from them. 9. Is she more likely to act, or to react? Since escaping the castle, she's more of a doer than a reactor. 10. Which is her default: fight or flight? Fight! 11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? She understands basic humor, but anything beyond that tends to fly over her head. Sometimes she'll laugh, though, and not understand why. 12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them? Not really? If you count the soul attached to her "heart" then, yeah, she has to deal with intense rushes of emotions at random spurts. She's been trying to manage this by learning how to behave in a more human manner so she won't draw attention to herself. 13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person? When the soul in her began maturing, when she busted out of the castle with Parrot... those two incidents have had the most impact so far since both made her aware that she was a someone versus a something. 14. What does she fear? Rat recently discovered that she has a fear of losing control! It's why her emotions scare her so much and why she wants to be able to have a strong hold on them. To her, having emotions in the first place indicated that something was defective in her design. 15. What are her hopes or aspirations? At the moment, it's to keep Parrot alive and to "fix" herself. 16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her? That she's the prince's "kidnapper." Therefore, she can't have anyone know that she's a golem. RELATIONSHIPS 1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents. Her parents were her creators. She's never met them. 2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? Her siblings would be the golems who were made to look like her I guess?? She never felt anything towards them. 3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand? Nope. 4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them? Parrot is a strange relationship to her. She views herself as his caretaker, first and foremost. On the other she's begun to consider himself as something of a "friend." All she's sure about is that it's vital to protect him at all costs, thanks to her ingrained orders. 5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Parrot would be the closest thing to a best friend! She was given to him as a gift on his 13th birthday in the hopes that it'd spur him to speak again. 6. Does she have other close friends? Not really! 7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people? Rat's never socialized much and it shows. She misreads and overlooks social cues all the time, which leads to some embarrassing mistakes. At heart, though, she's a kind person. 8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends? Parrot. 9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once? Single! 10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? ha ha ha romance 11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest? ha ha ha ha ha ha crushes 12. What does she look for in a romantic partner? Her views are bound to be skewed by whoever is willing to explain these sort of things to her. 13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any? At the moment, N/A. 14. Does she have any rivals or enemies? The throne is on her tail for busting Parrot out! 15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale? Rat would be a strong 3, feeling equal attraction to both males and females. She doesn't differentiate between genders when it comes to romance. 16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her? Rat can't experience sexual attraction! BELIEFS ANSWER HERE 2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life? ANSWER HERE 3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics?
